CRICKET: Kearsley took a step closer to an indoor cricket double when they reached the semi-finals of the Bolton League Indoor Cricket Trophy.

The Lancashire champions crushed Greenmount by nine wickets in the quarter-final at Bolton School on Sunday.

Greenmount were restricted to 104-5 with Daniel Hornby’s unbeaten 54 the first half century of the competition. Kearsley eased past the total for the loss of one wicket as Rick Hamblett on 25 and Jordan Thornley, 26, saw them home.

Tonge became the first team to bat first and win when they crushed Horwich. Tonge made 11-2 with Nigel Partington the star of the show with 27 not out, which he followed up with 3-3 as Horwich were bowled out for 50 despite 27 from Joe Settle.

Farnworth Social Circle fielded an inexperienced second team because their senior players were at a christening but Stephen French with 26 and Andy Waring, 27, did well in their first indoor game to reach 96-1. In reply, Eagley passed them for the loss of five wickets with Phil Ingram 29 and Phil McDermott 27 not out.

The competition reaches its conclusion on Sunday when Astley Bridge take on Kearsley at 11am and Tonge play Eagley at 12.15pm followed by the final at 1.30pm.
