Anthony Axford 2009 Indoor Trophy

GREENMOUNT, Astley Bridge and Tonge completed successful run chases in the first round of the Bolton League’s Anthony Axford Indoor Trophy competition.

All the teams batting second on the opening day of the event ran out winners, despite having big scores to chase.

The 12 overs-a-side event got under way at Bolton School on Sunday when Simon Woodford (38) and Dave Senior (33 not out) took Greenmount to 112-5 to beat Heaton’s 111-5, in which Rick Parry (35) and Mark Sinclair (32 not out) top scored.

Westhoughton hit an impressive 121-4 in which brothers Steve and Rick Parker top scored with 38 not out and 26 respectively, but Astley Bridge reached 127-2 with big contributions from Rick Northrop (37 not out), Will Halton (28 not out), Steve Shepley (25 not out), and David Cryer (24 not out).

Josh Gent’s 46 in Little Lever’s total of 97 was the best individual score of the day, but Nigel Partington (33 not out) and Matt Fray (30) helped Tonge reach 98-4.

The first round ties conclude on Sunday when Kearsley meet Egerton (11am), Farnworth play Farnworth SC (12.15pm) and Walkden play Eagley (1.30pm).
