Lyddon Trophy 2008 - Results
In 1977 to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of Her Majesty Little Lever Cricket Club devised a 20 over cricket knock out competition. They named the competition The Jubilee Trophy and invited all the clubs in the Bolton League to take part, this they did and the event has continued successfully every year since, Little Lever hosting the finals day. To remember Little Lever’s late Club and League president the competition was renamed in 2000 to the Lyddon Trophy. Someone at the E C B had a wonderful idea a couple of years ago of a brand new type of cricket competition and named it the 20/20. The rules are exactly the same as the Lyddon Trophy except it is played in coloured clothing. It was felt that with the current popularity of this type of game it should perhaps extend the participants of our competition and hopefully bring Leagues together and provide the opportunity of another much needed source of income to local Clubs. Astley Bridge has accepted our invite to take part in 2008. Initially the invitation was being extended to the Bolton Association and Bolton League clubs only. The main change needed to accommodate more entrants is that it will, no longer be a straight knock out competition instead clubs will form four groups on a geographical basis with a League/ Association split in each group, with five clubs in each group playing two matches at home and two away with the four winners of each group meeting in the final at Little Lever at the end of the season.
